CD 1: Film Music
We have selected the most beautiful themes from the many scores composed by Ennio Morricone, arranged and orchestrated by the Mastero himself for a variety of ensembles, from duos to quartets to full string orchestras. The poetry and musical values of these famous works are enhanced by a strength of writing and performance that gives us music that exists in its own right rather than merely as a background to visual images. The results are, of course, wonderful.
CD 2: Music for Piano
These pieces are played by Gilda Buttà, the virtuoso performer of “The legend of the pianist on the ocean” and Ennio Morricone’s favourite pianist with whom he has recorded many works. This CD features some of Morricone’s most important piano compositions and transcriptions and divides into two sections: Film music, transcribed by the Maestro himself, and compositions for solo piano, including pieces of “absolute music” for piano.
CD 3: Chamber Music
Conducted by Andrea Morricone and performed by the instrumental group Musica d’Oggi, the ten compositions featured on this CD are written using language and techniques of contemporary music to create a pure musical vision. Some of the pieces were composed by Ennio Morricone, some by others, including his son, Andrea, who demonstrates his remarkable talents as a composer and conductor.
CD 4: Symphonic Music
This CD is dedicated to symphony orchestras and soloists, with scores written by Ennio Morricone. The concerts, some of which are conducted by Andrea Morricone, were recorded at the Auditorium of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and performed by the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Symphony Orchestra.
