About

Alpha pays homage to Gustav Leonhardt with this lavish box set, comprising the last five recordings made by the great pioneer: a wonderful musical legacy.

Also included are tributes from musicians and collaborators, such as Philippe Herreweghe, Elisabeth Joyé and Gilles Cantagrel, and the booklet also presents a gallery of hitherto unpublished photographs.

These recordings take us on a fabulous journey into the world of late Renaissance to late Baroque keyboard works and explore a fascinating diversity of instruments (harpsichords, the hybrid claviorganum, the extraordinary Dom Bedos organ of Sainte-Croix in Bordeaux).

The last one, for which Gustav Leonhardt was artistic director and organist, was his final recording and devoted to secular cantatas by J S Bach, performed by the ensemble Café Zimmermann.
