About

Dominante and Seppo Murto here present a disc of choral works for mixed choir by Jean Sibelius.

The programme spans the entire active career of the composer and includes some of his best-known works, such as Rakastava (The Lover) and the Six Songs, Op.18, and the piece which has provided the title of the present disc: Saarella palaa (Fire on the Island)

The disc also includes some rarities, including some Neapolitan folk songs and a light-hearted serenade featuring the legendary Jorma Hynninen.

The disc ends with the hymn section from Finlandia, probably Sibelius’ most famous composition.
