MDG is now reissuing a recording that sold out on its first release some years ago. Together with Karl-Otto Hartmann, Dieter Klocker’s bassoon colleague in the Consortium Classicum, the energetic virtuoso performs double concertos by Franz Danzi and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, accompanied by the Suk Chamber Orchestra of Prague in top form.
Franz Danzi’s Double Concerto is a welcome addition to the repertoire from the early romantic period. A very special encore treasure links the two concertos: the Duo by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach must have been one of the very first original works for clarinet. Here Dieter Klöcker is in his element. The abrupt shifts of mood in this finely emotional miniature seem to have been made to order for the full-blooded musician, and here his decades of cooperation with Karl-Otto Hartmann yield the finest harvest.
