About
This very important 2CD set is a major addition to the Max Reger discography, containing as it does exceptionally rare war-time recordings conducted by several of the composer's most illustrious musical disciples.
During World War II the Nazis attempted, unsuccessfully, to use Reger's music for propaganda purposes, but its artistic worth and technical difficulties both frustrated the National Socialists' aims. It is only in quite recent decades that Reger's music has come to be appreciated for its inherent beauty and expressive purity, and these magnificent performances, which have been remastered to high standards, enable us to appreciate the quality of these unique orchestral scores in performances of remarkable musical fidelity.
