About
Music new and old for countertenors and recorders by top performers in a tribute to Alfred Deller who, inspired by Tippett, brought the countertenor voice back to life.
From the mid baroque period are Sonatas for two recorders by Handel and Williams. There are also songs by Deller’s close associate Walter Bergmann, miniatures by Tippett, the archetype John Blow Ode on the death of Purcell and exquisite vocal pieces by Fricker and Ridout. Consummately performed and a unique, distinctive programme.
“The outstanding performers are ideally suited to the music, the recorded sound is extremely clear and the musicians blend perfectly. Alfred’s family will be very pleased to hear this imaginative CD. I warmly recommend it.” – Elizabeth Rees (The Consort)
