About
Liszt, the leading piano virtuoso of his time, developed a friendship with the most successful opera composer in Paris, Giacomo Meyerbeer, during his years in the city. Meyerbeer’s most substantial operas – namely Robert le diable, Les Huguenots, Le Prophète and L’Africaine – were all inspiration for some of Liszt’s piano transcriptions. In transforming operatic scenes and arias into exciting piano transcriptions, Liszt’s versions took on independent life as virtuoso piano pieces in their own right.
This is volume 40 of the complete piano music series.
