About

This quite unique album couples two legendary and highly important first recordings of two of Tchaikovsky’s earlier named symphonies – the brilliant ‘Little Russian’ and the iconic ‘Polish’ – in what are believed to be the world premiere complete recordings of both works.

Giving this disc additional interest is that the symphonies were recorded for RCA within a few months (1940-41) by two of the most respected orchestras in the United States, each under a widely-admired conductor of great experience.

The sound quality is remarkably impressive for recordings of this era. It has been refurbished by the use of state-of-the-art sonic equipment to make this wholly unique coupling an absolute must for lovers of Tchaikovsky’s music and for those interested in the legendary achievements of recording history.
