About

In the post-war years, France was home to the emergence of one of the most formidable groups of cellists ever, and Maurice Gendron counts doubtlessly amongst the finest and most elegant of that group. Although to this day his most popular recordings still are on stores shelves, a retrospective of his art has never been compiled before. This box set fills this gap and comprises the near totality of Gendron’s discographic legacy with recordings dating from 1946 to 1969, many of which are first-releases. It thus consists of a compilation of all his recordings for Decca and Philips in addition to some of his most relevant work for EMI, as a part of the fabulous trio he formed during the 60s with Yehudi and Hephzibah Menuhin - most notably recordings of Brahms and Tchaikovsky trios which are released for the first time in this boxset.
