About

This 4-CD set presents the recordings of Georg Philipp Telemann’s music for transverse flute made by Barthold Kuijken for the Accent label. His technical and artistic mastery can be heard both a solo (his legendary recording of the 12 Fantasias for solo flute is included here) and together with some of his long-standing chamber music partners, including his brothers Sigiswald (violin) and Wieland (viola da gamba), and Robert Kohnen (harpsichord). To the beautiful, complete set of Sonate metodiche, this inspired and inspiring survey adds the Suite in D minor for flute, violin and continuo, the Quartet in G major for flute, 2 violas da gamba and continuo, and the Cantata ‘Ihr Völker hört’, with the guest appearance of countertenor René Jacobs. Yet another important step in the current reappreciation of Telemann’s exquisite compositional output.
