The Hagen Quartet is celebrated for its command of the Viennese repertoire. Its sought-after cellist Clemens Hagen has received numerous offers to record Haydn’s cello concertos with some of the most prestigious chamber orchestras throughout the years, but finally found an artistically interesting partner when performing it together with 1B1 at the Stavanger Chamber Music Festival in 2015.
1B1 bring the chamber musical approach into the orchestral format, becoming the musical collaborator Clemens Hagen has envisaged for this music. And when Clemens Hagen finally decides to record the Haydn C major, it goes without saying that the result is unlike anything else ever heard on record. Henning Kraggerud also contributes, with brand new solo-cadenzas written especially for Hagen.
Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E flat for violin, viola and orchestra remains among the absolute favourites of the classical repertoire. Here it is performed by founder and artistic director Jan Bjøranger and emminent viola player Lars Anders Tomter in an open and playful dialogue with 1B1, on a recording characterised by a unique nordic sound.
