The Venetian School contributed significantly to the emergence of the seconda pratica, and thus to the transition from Renaissance to Baroque. During this period of upheaval the traditional town waits, with their shawms, bombards and sackbuts, were perhaps nowhere so close to the virtuosos of the burgeoning string guilds than here in Venice.
