The Avison EnsembleConductor
Pavlo BeznosiukAbout
Handel’s Opus 6 is widely considered as one of the definitive examples of the concerto grosso form: their symphonic variety of colour, texture and emotion sets them apart from other examples. The Avison Ensemble has frequently performed these works since its formation in 1985; this recording represents a culmination of its experience.
Beznosiuk stated: ‘These new readings are a chance to revisit old and familiar friends and to reacquaint ourselves with Handel’s genius, but above all, to joyously revel in some of the greatest string music ever penned.’
The Avison Ensemble is one of England’s foremost exponents of 18th-century music on period instruments comprising some of Europe’s leading Baroque musicians. Formed in 1985, the Ensemble has attracted great critical acclaim; The Guardian commented: ‘I’d take the Avison Ensemble over Karajan any day’. The Avison Ensemble has appeared to critical acclaim at St. John’s Smith Square in London and at the Hallé Handel Festival in Germany.
Pavlo Beznosiuk, the UK’s foremost Baroque violin virtuoso, is in demand as a soloist and leader performing often with the Academy of Ancient Music and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
‘I shall certainly return frequently to this splendid set.’ – BBC Music Magazine (Orchestral Choice)
‘The Avison’s accounts under Pavlo Beznosiuk have a natural, easy virtuosity that will endear them to purists...’ – The Sunday Times
‘A vivacious, highly detailed set.’ – The Independent on Sunday
