Profeti della QuintaAbout
The award-winning a-cappella ensemble, comprising five core male singers, is joined for this recording by Katya Polin and Eva Saladin (violin) and Ori Harmelin and Ryosuke Sakamoto (theorbo). The native Hebrew speaking singers specialize in the music of the Italian Baroque and have an immediate connection to Rossi as a Jewish Italian composer.
In naming Profeti della Quinta winners of the 2011 York Early Music Young Artists Competition, producer and judge Philip Hobbs commented: ‘Profeti della Quinta’s stunning authentic performance practice and quality of execution was truly magnificent.’
Focusing on repertoire from the 16th and early 17th centuries, Profeti della Quinta aims to create vivid and expressive performances for audiences today; in particular, this is achieved through addressing the performance practices of the time. From its core of five male singers (Cantus - Doron Schleifer, David Feldman; Tenor - Dino Lüthy, Dan Dunkelblum; Bassus, Cembalo & musical direction - Elam Rotem) this a-cappella ensemble also collaborates with instrumentalists and additional singers.
In 2011, Profeti della Quinta won the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition, and has since toured Europe, North America, Japan, China and Israel. Profeti della Quinta has performed in prestigious festivals and venues, such as the Oude Muziek Festival Utrecht, the Shanghai concert hall, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Profeti della Quinta are featured in a documentary film by Joseph Rochlitz, Hebreo: The Search for Salomone Rossi, and have had their concerts broadcast by numerous international radio stations.
‘This expertly performed collection deserves recognition as a hidden gem.’ – The Observer
‘...the five male singers in the Profeti della Quinta ensemble...interpret the psalm-settings with particular expertise.’ – American Record Guide
‘An exotic selection of instrumental sinfonias, sonatas and dances - all marvellously performed.’ – Early Music Today (5 stars)
