While the three composers remained faithful to their German roots, the works presented here also feature influences from the Italian Baroque, including the use of drama, expression, intensity, rhythmic fervour, harmonic invention and word painting, as well as polychoral techniques.
Founded in 2002 by Lisette Canton, the Ottawa Bach Choir performs music from all historical periods while keeping Bach’s choral oeuvre as the focus of its repertoire. Joining some of Canada’s most accomplished artists and top choristers from the National Capital region and beyond, the choir has received national and international recognition.
Lisette Canton is a choral and orchestral conductor, vocal coach and technician, guest conductor, and early music specialist. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of the internationally acclaimed Ottawa Bach Choir, and is also Associate Professor and Head of Choral Music at York University in Toronto, where she is in charge of the graduate programme in choral music.
Ensemble Caprice, a baroque ensemble which performs on period instruments, was founded by acclaimed recorder soloist Matthias Maute, and has become known for its innovative approach to an increasingly expanding musical repertoire. In addition to its Montreal concert series, the group tours extensively in Quebec, Canada, the USA, Europe, and Asia.
