About

Friends and frequent recital partners Jean-Guihen Queyras and Alexandre Tharaud are reunited here for an album conceived as a collection of short stories, presenting both celebrated and little-known masterpieces of the repertory.

If the art of transcription is the hallmark of great performers, it must be said that these two partners are past masters at it. Throughout this lyrical yet virtuosic programme, music lovers will meet one surprise after another.

Reviews

... played with gossamer lightness and quicksilver virtuosity by Jean Guihen Queyras and Alexandre Tharaud... a much better constructed affair than many encore discs... I could drop just about anywhere on this and it would be rewarding, a fine listen end to end.  Andrew McGregor
Record Review (BBC Radio 3) 25 January 2020
… here we have a disc of encores to hit all moods and genres: opening with a perkily fluttering and precise reading of the Allegro di molto from Piatigorsky’s transcription of Haydn’s Divertimento in D; Brahms and Popper; and top-of-the-pops picks such as Tchaikovsky’s ‘Valse sentimentale’ and Saint-Saëns’s ‘Le cygne’, which are both lightly floating, gently poetic, less-is-more readings to die for.  Charlotte Gardner
