Danish composer, conductor and musical icon Bo Holten selected the works, composed combining solo cello introductions, and the result is probably one of the most moving releases of its kind.
The splendid Flemish Radio Choir gives a truly magificient performance joined by a leading cellist and pianist from the Brussels Philharmonic.
Bo Holten (born 22 October, 1948) is a Danish composer and conductor, who has written 9 operas, 5 concertos, 2 symphonies, various orchestral pieces and chamber music, film scores and c. 40 works for a cappella choir, more than 100 works in all.
He founded the vocal ensemble Ars Nova, Copenhagen 1979 and directed this for 17 years. He also founded the vocal ensemble Musica Ficta 1996 and still directs that group.
He conducts and records regularly with all the Danish symphony orchestras.
He served as Principal Guest Conductor for The BBC Singers 1990-2006 and Chief Conductor for The Flemish Radio Choir, Bruxelles from 2008-2011.
He has recorded 75 CDs and has conducted about 220 world premieres, and more than 1500 concerts and opera performances.
