About
The album is an intimate glimpse into Jonas Kaufmann’s own personal Christmas. His choice of German Christmas carols reflects those he and his family have sung together around the Christmas Tree since he was a child. In the booklet note he reminiscences how, after the presents were opened, his father would delve into his record collection to find his favourite swinging Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra festive numbers.
He presents a lovely mix of religious Christmas songs like “O Holy Night”, “Adeste Fideles” and“Silent Night”, along with festive holiday hits like “Let it Snow”, “Winter Wonderland”, “Jingle Bells” and “White Christmas”. Jonas shows his versatility across several languages and musical styles.
Jonas Kaufmann is accompanied by the renowned Mozarteum Salzburg Orchestra, who bring their shimmering warm sound to these seasonal favourites. The Cologne Studio Big Band lend their natural swing and pizzazz on a handful of international hits. The album also includes special intimate folk arrangements (called Bavarian ‘stubnmusi’) on several tracks.
Kaufmann is considered one of the greatest tenors of this generation. He has performed at the world’s most prestigious concert venues including the Royal Opera House in London and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
Kaufmann has won numerous prestigious awards including Gramophone Awards and Echo Klassik Awards.
