About

You could call him the father of Ukrainian music: Boris Lyatoshynsky. The great Soviet music encyclopaedia praises him as one of the most important founders of Ukrainian symphonic and chamber music, also as the creator of the first Ukrainian symphony. He was born in 1895 in Shitomir, studied law at the University of Kiev and also took composition lessons at the conservatory with Reinhold Glière, whose colourful orchestral writing and affinity with the so-called "Russian classicism" have consistently shaped Lyatoshynsky's work.
