Leonard Bernstein’s acclaimed 1980s cycle of Mahler’s symphonies is for the first time presented as a complete set on vinyl, Symphonies nos. 8 and 10 even seeing their very first international release on vinyl. Considered “a personal statement by one great musician on another” (The Penguin Guide to Compact Discs), this cycle was recorded with three orchestras themselves closely linked to Mahler's compositional and conductorial output, in which Bernstein “finds the universal in Mahler’s exquisite, often tortured self-consciousness” (Time Magazine): the Concertgebouworkest, New York Philharmonic, and Wiener Philharmoniker. Soloists include Barbara Hendricks (no.2), Christa Ludwig (nos. 2 & 3) and, among others, Margaret Price and José van Dam (no.8).

This limited and numbered edition includes 16 LPs in sleeves or gatefolds respectively, based on the original releases including artwork by Art Deco artist Erté and original liner notes about the works in English and German. As a bonus, facsimiles of the recording documentation are added, as well as new liner notes by Rainer Maillard from Emil Berliner Studios, documenting the re-mastering process for this edition.
