About

"If the famous conductors were more interested in music instead of their own careers the name Boris Tchaikovsky would be known all over the world.... The music by Boris Tchaikovsky is so important, so gripping and profoundly beautiful that he should be played just as often as his more famous namesake..." (Svenska Dagbladet)

Boris Tchaikovsky – no relation to Pyotr Ilyich – belongs to the generation of Soviet composers which falls between Shostakovich (one of his teachers) and Kabalevsky on one side, and Schnittke and Gubaidulina on the other.

Following on from the success of his Piano Concerto released earlier this year, the works on this important disc offer a varied cross-section of Boris Tchaikovsky’s work, from the shimmering rhythms of his Murmuring Forest Suite film music to the Symphony No.1, a controversial work banned in 1947 for being ‘too modernistic’, which has only recently re-entered the performing repertoire.
