About
For her second recording on the SonyBMG label, the Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta has chosen five concertos of Vivaldi's for cello. Probably composed after 1723, they stand out for their virtuosity, stirring tempos and graceful cantilenas. Her choice also includes an arrangement of the ‘Winter’ movement of The Four Seasons and an adaptation of the Violin Concerto in A minor for cello.
Gabetta is accompanied by one of the best known Italian early music ensembles, the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca, who have previously worked with artists such as the violinist Giuliano Carmignola and the mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli.
On this recording, Gabetta plays a valuable Guadagnini cello of 1759, using for the first time gut strings and a Baroque bow.
