About

Wiener Frauen was Lehár’s first opera, and was a resounding success at its premičre in 1902. This was the work which proved to the music critics that Franz Lehár was a worthy successor to Johann Strauss. After the premičre of this work, Lehár was hailed as the new ‘operetta king’. This new recording bring us Lehár’s inaugural operetta in all its pomp and glory.
Although still in this musical orientation at the time of writing, Lehár has infused Wiener Frauen with his trademark catchy melodies, the most famous of which is undoubtedly the feisty ‘Nechledil March’.
Conducted by:
- Helmuth Forschauer (Wiener Frauen)
- Curt Cramer (Overtures)
