Helicon is the label of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra whose chief conductor has been Zubin Mehta since 1977. This disc joins two masterpieces of the orchestral repertoire: the last fully classical of Mozart’s symphonies (No.38) and the last symphony by Schubert, the triumph of the romantic sensitivity. Mehta and IPO ravish the listener in both cases, enhancing the specific features of each symphony structure and atmosphere.
