About

Legendary tango performer and composer Astor Piazzolla gained experience of jazz in New York and classical form and technique through studies with Alberto Ginastera. His work lends itself perfectly to arrangement for all kinds of ensemble, and this is the first recording with solo trombone.

These popular pieces showcase the stunning playing of multi-award winning soloist Achilles Liarmakopoulos in a variety of moods, including the famous Oblivion and Le Grand Tango, a virtuoso show-stopper originally written for cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. This unique recording combines his talents with a substantial pool of today’s leading musicians and Tango exponents.

Astor Piazzolla’s work is always an attractive prospect in the CD marketplace, and this outstanding recording brings a refreshing and strikingly vibrant new view on some of his most popular works.

Born in Greece, Achilles Liarmakopoulos is the trombonist of the legendary Canadian Brass, an eager chamber musician and a trombone soloist dedicated to an expanding, attractive repertoire of important works revived from the archives, as well as standard repertoire.
