Schwanthaler TrompetenconsortAbout
The trumpet in its many different forms has been playing a special role as signalling instrument throughout many centuries, and accompanies mankind through war and peace. Consequentially, one associates the brilliant sound of the trumpet with the power and pomp of the clerical and secular authorities.
The current program of the Schwanthaler Trumpet Consort of the Anton Bruckner Private University, Linz contains a representative sample of 17th and 18th century court literature written for trumpets. Works by Biber, Mozart, Salieri and Weber are joined by fanfares and representative court music by Joseph Starzer, Placidus Fixlmillner, Johann Baptist Schiedermayr and others.
Besides trumpets, timpani, percussion, clarinets, trombones and posthorns are also involved. Using replicas of historic instruments, paired with historically informed performance practice, provides for a particularly authentic listening experience.
