About

'A Flute in Ice' is based on the discovery in 1871 of the explorer W Barentsz’s cottage in Novaja Zemlja from his last expedition in 1596. A renaissance flute was found there, together with a songbook and a drum stick.

Performed on a replica of the flute, with drums, lute and viol, the listener can hear the music that perhaps was the last that the great explorer heard, and has lain forgotten for 400 years.

Contains works by various composers, including Clemens non Papa, Adriaensen, Terzi, van der Howe, Lasso and van Eyck.

Lux Borea:
- Jan van Elsacker (tenor)
- Paul Wahlberg (flute)
- Varpu Haavisto (treble and bass viol)
- Thor-Harald Johnsen (lute)
- Hakon Mřrch Stene (percussion)
