London Piano TrioAbout
This premier recording of Henry Cotter Nixon's Piano Trio No.1 from 1879 is another example of the myth that no British music of worth was composed between Handel and Elgar. Although influenced by the Germanic musical culture of Schubert, Schumann and Mendelssohn, the melody opening the andante is an example of the late Victorian Anglican hymn.
This recording follows the London Piano Trio's recording of Donald Tovey's Piano Trio Opus 27 on the Guild Music label GMCD7352, strengthening their commitment to British music.
