Corigliano’s aim was to write a concerto in a style his father would have wanted to play, which results in music that has a wealth of communicative qualities, colours, emotions and atmospheres. The work is coupled with a concerto of broad appeal, composed by Jaakko Kuusisto - a highly respected violinist and conductor.
This is Elina Vähäla’s debut recording on BIS. She first performed as a soloist with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra at the age of 12 - they lend her spirited support throughout the recording.
