Arte QuartettAbout
‘Different Worlds’ presents the unique artistry of the saxophone ensemble Arte Quartett in a stunning journey through various musical realms and styles. The quartet performs music by oud player and composer Rabih Abou-Khalil, minimalist Terry Riley, saxophonist and composer John Zorn and others, alongside traditional Swiss folk music.
Starting from their homeland Switzerland, the Arte Quartett first explore their Alpine roots by transforming folk song forms and alpenhorn impressions into what could be called a spiritually inspired mountain fantasy in four movements. Yet from the fifth track, the quartet moves into a very different musical field with compositions by Rabih Abou-Khalil and John Zorn, where the free imagination of today’s jazz composers meets Middle-Eastern scales and expressiveness.
With the last track, 'Indian Trail', homage is made to Indian raga music in cooperation with minimalist pioneer Terry Riley, taking the quartet into yet another musical sphere, rocked by percussion, voice and effects.
Arte Quartett:
- Beat Hofstetter (soprano saxophone)
- Sascha Armbruster (alto saxophone, trumpet sax)
- Andrea Formenti (tenor saxophone)
- Beat Kappeler (baritone saxophone)
