Leopold StokowskiAbout
The career of the great conductor Leopold Stokowski (1882-1977) was one of the most colourful in 20th-century classical music, but since his death at the age of 95 he has come to be more widely appreciated for his performances of the great repertoire from the Austro-Germanic tradition.
This immensely valuable CD couples the only two extent recordings of Stokowski conducting Mozart piano concertos - the only concertos Mozart composed in a minor key - together with three short purely orchestral works, including one orchestration by the great conductor, who is here heard directing no fewer than five different orchestras.
The Concertos are exceptionally rare recordings and this CD constitutes a major addition to the Stokowski discography.
