About
It’s Brazil as you’ve never heard it before in this new album from Quatuor Ébčne. Bossa nova and samba are shaken up in an intoxicating multicultural cocktail with the score from Terry Gilliam’s 1985 film Brazil, Argentinian tango, and numbers by songwriters from Stevie Wonder and Sting to Charlie Chaplin.
Joining the Quatuor Ebčne as special guests are eclectic French singer-songwriter Bernard Lavilliers and the stylish American jazz singer Stacey Kent.
So there is more to their new album 'Brazil' than a salute to this year’s World Cup extravaganza in South America. For a start, the country is the source of pau-brasil, also known as Brazilwood or pernambuco, which is traditionally used in making bows for stringed instruments, and thus complements the ebony (ébčne in French) used for the fingerboards of violins, violas and cellos.
