About
The first CD dedicated to the works of Archduke Rudolph, containing several world premières!
Archduke Rudolph went into musical history as the friend, pupil and patron of Beethoven. Beethoven dedicated no fewer than 14 works to this immensely important figure, amongst them the Missa Solemnis, the Emperor Concerto and the Hammerklavier Sonata.
No wonder there are Beethoven’s influences in these works, mainly for clarinet (his instrument): certain daring harmonic turns and a general boisterous and good humoured mood, reminiscent of Beethoven the young virtuoso and salon lion.
Excellent performances by maestro Luigi Magistrelli, one of Italy’s best clarinettists, and champion of unjustly forgotten scores.
