Jan Vermeulen (fortepiano)About
Fortepianist Jan Vermeulen studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels with André de Groote. He graduated in 1979, obtaining a higher diploma of piano. After having won the Tenuto Competition in 1979, held by the Belgian Radio and Television (BRT), Jan Vermeulen started an impressive career as a soloist and chamber musician in Belgium as well as abroad.
His performances are marked by a constant search for authenticity. Jan Vermeulen seeks to interpret the classical, romantic and impressionistic repertoire in a historically grounded and well-considered way. As a result, piano music is interpreted on period instruments that mostly belong to his own private collection, which now consists of seven fortepianos.
Jan Vermeulen teaches piano and fortepiano at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven.
