David RowlandAbout
Rarely-recorded choral works by Rheinberger, Wolf, Liszt, and Brahms give an overview of the wide range of styles in nineteenth century German choral music, from the austere polyphony of Brahms’ motets for upper voices, to the rich, chromatic writing of Hugo Wolf. It concludes with one of Brahms’ best-loved sacred choral works, Geistliches Lied.
This is the sixth recording on the Regent label from the choir of Christ’s College, Cambridge, directed by David Rowland, and all have received consistently outstanding critical notices.
