Robert Costin (organ)About
Following on from Robert Costin’s critically acclaimed recording of the Goldberg Variations, we are delighted to announce the perfect follow-up disc: a recording of all six of Bach’s Trio Sonatas for organ.
As for the Goldberg recording, Costin plays the organ of his alma mater, Pembroke College Cambridge, where he was organ scholar. This instrument is a modern renovation of a 1708 organ, and so is ideal for this repertoire, and the wonderful acoustics of the college chapel provide a beautiful warm and natural sound.
Costin’s detailed notes not only give an excellent introduction to the pieces, but also an insight into his approach as a performer to each of the works.
This is an authentic and thrilling account of some of Bach’s most inventive music.
“Costin’s playing is honest and stylistically sensitive ... it sounds fresh, engaging and wellmatched to the ringing acoustics of Wren's chapel.” - Choir and Organ
