About
‘Duality’ brings into focus the classical and jazz worlds of internationally acclaimed saxophonist Rob Buckland. Accompanied by pianist Peter Lawson, the programme features compositions by five musicians and composers whose works have long been admired by Buckland: Tim Garland, Graham Fitkin, Barbara Thompson, Jason Rebello and Andy Scott.
The pieces on the CD are mostly through composed, some have some improv, many have sections where solo-like passages are woven into the structure of the music - essentially classically rooted pieces, infused and influenced by jazz harmony, inflection and language.
“The music on this disc all came together in the last 6 months, as I looked at creating a disc that truly felt like my musical home; a classically rooted disc, embracing and celebrating all of the nuance and inflection of a jazz performance, with a resonance for today’s audience and today’s music.” - Rob Buckland
Rob Buckland is internationally acclaimed as one of the most distinctive and versatile saxophonists of his generation, regularly appearing as a concerto and recital soloist, with his Equivox Trio, and with the Apollo Saxophone Quartet.
