About

Little is known about the life of Domenico Zanatta (c.1665-1748). He was most probably born in Venice, as the title pages of his manuscripts seem to attest, printing his first collection of sonatas at the tender age of 24. However, he also had a second endeavour and a great mastery of the cantata genre where his melodic inventiveness freely flows, continuing the tradition of his Venetian colleagues in a worthy way.

Flavio Ferri-Benedetti and Musica Fiorita, under Daniela Dolci, present some of his pieces interspersed with works by Cavalli, Strozzi, who was a pupil of Cavalli, and Fontana: a pioneer of the then-new stile recitativo.
