About

Francesca Ajossa, a young, talented organist from Cagliari, is the protagonist of this CD, entirely devoted to the music of the nineteenth century in Sardinia; a unique territory, renowned for its beauty and history, in which music has always occupied a prominent position. The organ literature of the time demonstrates a unique fusion of influences from the northern Italy, Lombardy and Piedmont organ schools (mainly in large urban centres) with the ancient Sardinian folk tradition (passed down orally) that in the rural area outside the city consistently permeated church music. The CD can also be considered an opera omnia of the nineteenth-century Sardinian music (no other handwritten or printed sources could be found). The instrument used in the recording is the Piacentini-Battani organ of 1885 in the Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro in Cagliari.
