The second section of this presentation of the great organ of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence deals with repertory from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The reconstruction of this instrument was simply intended to favour the contemporary organ, while keeping in mind organ history and particularly the French romantic and symphonic organ. The organ-builder Pascal Quoirin proposed an uncompromising composition of stops, which included very characteristic families of pipes in order to obtain homogeneous ensembles, but which also reveal new unexpected qualities.
The concept of the variation, the main theme of this programme, allows one to hear a wide range of various registrations.
