About

Martin-Pierre Dalvimare (1771–1839) was an extraordinary figure in the history of French music. He lived in Paris during the turbulent years of both the Revolution and Napoleon’s reign, achieving great fame for his talent as a harpist. He composed many works for the instrument. The three harp sonatas performed here by Paola Perrucci are excellent examples of late 18th- and early 19th-century harp music. Technically demanding, they reveal the compositional skills of an artist who moved with the times, who was receptive to Beethoven’s innovations and capable of recreating on the harp a melodically and harmonically complex language. They will undoubtedly be a pleasant surprise for those who are unfamiliar with the extent of the harp’s expressive range.
