Written in 1945, Ivanovs’ Symphony no.5 is still one of the best examples of Latvian symphonic writing. Karlsons, Ivanovs’ student, wrote his Music for Symphony Orchestra “1945” in 1985 as a commission from the state to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the end of the War.
