Robin TicciatiAbout
Bruckner broke new ground with his Sixth Symphony; its meandering harmonies, intricate rhythms and imaginative instrumentation are coupled with contrasting moods and a theme that moves satisfyingly from dark to light. Occasionally overshadowed by the more familiar Fifth and Seventh symphonies, the Sixth has many extraordinary moments, including the astonishing Scherzo. Notably this was the first work that the self-doubting composer did not seek to revise. Ticciati describes this symphony as “wild, daring and risky”, a perfect pairing for this engaging and charismatic conductor.
Robin Ticciati has been Music Director of the Deutsches Symphonie- Orchester Berlin since 2017 and Music Director of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera since 2014. He was Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra from 2009 to 2018. Guest conducting highlights include concerts with the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Staatskapelle Dresden.
For more than 70 years the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin has distinguished itself as one of Germany's leading orchestras. The DSO Berlin is also in demand worldwide with many award-winning recordings including a 2011 Grammy Award.
“[Ticciati] rather demands blossoming landscapes as far as the ear can reach – as he does now in Bruckner's Sixth Symphony.” – Morgenpost
“With his brilliantly willing, responsive orchestra, Ticciati chances the most modern, the most exciting Bruckner the audience has ever experienced...” – Welt
“Ticciati, conducting from memory, exorcised the symphony of everything pathetic and sedate. In the Majestoso he let the orchestra storm the risk zone, where it can sound queasy, but Ticciati formed an elegant bow overall.” – Frankfurter Rundschau
