About
Italian pianist Pietro Scarpini (1911-1997) was called “a pianist of prodigious capacities” by New York Times critic Olin Downes after the performance of the Prokofiev Second Concerto. From his debut in Rome with the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia in 1936, followed immediately by his first success abroad with the Berlin Philharmonic, Scarpini continued his career performing with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam.
