Soren Nils EichbergAbout
This recording, piloted by the two hands of pianist Emil Gryesten , covers piano-focused works by Danish/German composer Søren Nils Eichberg spanning the decade from 2002. These were pivotal years for Eichberg, coming directly after his victory in the composing discipline of the 2001 Queen Elisabeth Competition Competition.
Eichberg himself says that “The piano is my instrument! I am led by my fingers”, and in the album you’ll find both solo piano and works for piano and ensemble.
On this recording, Emil Gryesten has gathered a team of friends to play Eichberg’s ensemble works in close collaboration with the composer himself, who conducts the works.
Emil Gryesten (b. 1985) has received awards at a number of Danish and international competitions for young pianists, including the Steinway Competition in Hamburg, Berlingske Tidende’s Classical Music Competition in Copenhagen, the Nordic Pianist Competition at Nyborg Castle and Finland’s National Piano Competition in Jyväskylä.
