Gershwin’s An American in Paris is one of the most famous pieces of American music, but according to The New York Times, recent research indicates “orchestras have been playing one of its best known effects wrong.” This Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra album features two versions of the new critical edition of An American in Paris – both world premiere recordings: the new critical edition of this iconic work, and an unabridged critical edition which includes two minutes of music that Gershwin decided to cut. The CSO received special permission from the Gershwin family to record the unabridged version.
