About

Praised by his contemporary Brahms, Gustav Jenner wrote two fascinating but unknown chamber works which were presented here for the first time on CD and now reissued.

Brahms’s praise occasioned Jenner’s move from Hamburg to Vienna in February 1888, where he became the only composition student ever accepted by the master. The Trio in E fat major for Clarinet, Horn, and Piano and the Clarinet Sonata, op.5, are performed by a trio of the younger generation who made their MDG debut on this production: Martin Litschgi (clarinet), Nadja Helble (horn), and Iryna Krasnovska (piano).
