Zygmunt Krauze (piano)About
“I tried to escape his influence, but it proved impossible. Today I even feel a kind of satisfaction when I discover in my own works some echoes of the typical Chopin melancholy and phrasing. It is not just because I write for the piano. If you listen to Panufnik, Gorecki, or Kilar, Chopin left his mark on all of them as well.”
This is how Zygmunt Krauze, Poland’s most eminent pianist-composer since Karol Szymanowski (or perhaps even since Chopin) explains his Chopinesque inspirations.
Though Krauze prefers to see himself first and foremost as a composer, it is hard to judge which of the two sides of his artistic personality should be considered more important and more fascinating. You can decide for yourself with this recording.
