Brahms already was a great enthusiast of four-hands writing and has left us a wide array of works for this genre. Some, such as the Haydn Variations or his early two-piano Sonata (which led to his First Piano Concerto), were first created as works for two pianos, while many others are a later version, which he wrote for the majority of his chamber, symphonic and even choral oeuvre.
