The music of Jakob Buchanan (b. 1968) has an open, Scandinavian sound; something utterly Nordic mixed with a blue melancholy.
On Rosenhill is a personal work whose core is a musical meditation on Buchanan’s childhood neighbourhood (Rosenhøj), the highly-profiled soloists adding unexpected gifts to the work as a whole.
Jakob Buchanan’s approach to composition is intuitive rather than conceptual. The writing is linked to his experiences as a trumpeter.
New York-born singer Indra Rios-Moore interprets the lyrics by South-African poet Iain S. Thomas with a voice that combines the sublimely beautiful with the unaffected and natural.
The album is mixed in the legendary Rainbow Studio in Oslo, by sound engineer Jan Erik Kongshaug – his very last album, before passing away.
This is the world-premiere recording of On Rosenhill.
